Workshop: High-Value Bioproducts from Underutilised Biomass Resources and Bioresidues
In the face of pressing environmental challenges, the European Union has taken decisive steps to foster a sustainable bioeconomy. This vision is clearly outlined in the European Bioeconomy Strategy, which aims to transform biological waste streams into valuable bioproducts. This approach not only supports the Circular Economy Action Plan but also aligns with the broader goals of the European Green Deal, particularly in reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable resources.
At the heart of this movement is the drive to shift from a linear “take-make-dispose” model to a circular economy. This transition maximizes resource efficiency, minimizes waste, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, ultimately fostering a more sustainable and resilient economy.
The upcoming workshop on High-Value Bioproducts from Underutilised Biomass Resources and Bioresidues is a pivotal event in this ongoing effort. Organized by the BeonNAT project and hosted by IPB-CIMO, this workshop will take place at the School of Technology and Management (ESTiG) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança on January 16th.
Workshop Overview
This workshop serves as a dynamic platform to discuss recent advancements, share groundbreaking research, and promote collaboration in the field of bioresource transformation. By converting biomass into high-value products such as fibers, biochemicals, biochar, bioplastics, composites, and absorbents, we can unlock new economic opportunities and contribute significantly to environmental sustainability.
Key Topics and Projects
The event will feature insights from several innovative projects, including:
- BeonNAT: Focusing on the comprehensive utilization of tree and shrub species to produce a variety of bioproducts.
- Sustainext: Exploring sustainable technologies for biomass conversion.
- FIBSUN: Investigating the development of fiber-based materials from biomass.
- CisWEFE-NEX: Addressing water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus challenges through circular bioeconomy approaches.
- MIDAS: Developing advanced bio-based materials.
- Up4Health: Promoting the use of underutilized bioresources in health-related applications.
Why Attend?
This workshop is an invaluable opportunity for researchers, industry professionals, and policy-makers to engage with cutting-edge research and innovative technologies. By fostering discussions and collaborations, we aim to drive the bioeconomy forward and contribute to a more sustainable future.
