Partners meet in Suceava for the 7th General Assembly
On July 16th and 17th, BeonNAT partners gathered in Suceava, Romania, for the 7th General Assembly of the project 🌳. The event brought together representatives to discuss the project’s status and progress, providing an opportunity for each partner to present the Work Packages they lead.
The first day was dedicated to presentations and discussions on the current progress of the project. Following the presentations, three mini workshops were conducted. The first workshop, led by Leonard Duduman and Ciprian Palaghianu, focused on the Effect of Marginality on Biodiversity. This workshop covered various topics including the locations of BeonNAT test sites, the biodiversity protocol, cormophyta plant diversity, and ground beetles diversity.
The second workshop, presented by Carlos Martin Sastre, delved into Biorefinery Case Studies. Key points of discussion included the steps to define and assess the biorefineries, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data for biorefineries, preliminary environmental results, and the next critical steps in the biorefinery assessment process.
The final workshop, conducted by the project coordinator Luis Esteban Pascual, addressed the topic of Publications in BeonNAT.
In addition to the productive sessions, participants also enjoyed some enriching field visits and cultural excursions, thanks to the hospitality of the University of Suceava. The field visits included tours of the Zamostea and Moara field experiments, the USV facilities, and the EGGER facilities. Participants had the chance to observe the experimental poplar cultures in the Radauti area and visited Betula Pendula and Carpinus Betulus plantations. These plantations are used for the production of various bioproducts such as essential oils, biochar, activated carbon, pet absorbent, and bioplastics from arable species grown on marginal lands.
The cultural excursions included visits to the 17th-century Dragomirna fortified monastery, the fortified fortress of Suceava, and the Museum of the Traditional Village. These visits provided a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Suceava, enhancing the overall experience of the assembly.
Overall, the 7th General Assembly of BeonNAT was a successful event that allowed partners to share their progress, gain new insights, and strengthen their collaboration while enjoying the cultural and historical landmarks of Suceava.
